New College Park restaurants offering discounts during homecoming

Smiling Moose Deli will open at UT Arlington’s College Park District Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 a.m. Located at 441 S. Pecan St, the deli features a relaxing, coffee shop atmosphere and free wireless internet.

The deli will serve hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, salads, soups, and desserts. Additionally, they will have a breakfast and kid's menu and catering services.

The company got it's start in Colorado’s Vail Valley in 2003 and has been growing ever since. According to Scott Sloat, Director of Operations, this will be the 18th store for the company and the 8th out-of-state store. There are three locations in Texas: Arlington, Midland, and San Angelo.

The owner of the Arlington location, Jennifer Frank, said she intends to reach out to the local community. The moose mascot for the Smiling Moose Deli, Mo, will attend local high school and middle school pep rallies.

Smiling Moose Deli likes to give back to the community that patronizes them, said Frank. So on the first Monday of every month, 10 percent of the restaurant’s proceeds will be donated to a charity. The charities have yet to be decided.

There will be special drawings and freebie giveaways during UT Arlington’s homecoming game on Friday. For their grand opening, Daryl “Moose” Johnston, a former Dallas Cowboys football player, will be in attendance.

For customers looking for a quick fix, Pie Five offers a variety of specialty pizzas like the buffalo chicken, Pie Five High Five, and barbecue pulled pork pizza among many other pre-assembled favorites. The restaurant also serves salads and cookie pies.

Catalina Landon, a shift manager at Pie Five, describes the restaurant’s environment as laid back.
