High School girls soccer round-up

Girls Soccer - JV

In the second meeting of the season, Arlington High's Lady Colts JV team hoped to even the count against the Lady Warriors. However, they were denied again, as Martin claimed a 3-1 win.

Martin set the tone for the game early on with a goal, and pressed hard for the rest of the game. Arlington's defense answered and held the Warriors to only one goal for the first half. Arlington was able to even up the score during the 32nd minute, and go into the half at 1-1.

However, this wasn't enough to hold the game at a tie, as Martin scored two minutes in, and then again to leave a final score of 3-1 Lady Warriors. The Lady Colts had many chances, but they just did not capitalize on their opportunities.

Girls Soccer - Varsity

Meeting number two in district play between Arlington Lady Colts and the Martin Lady Warriors was a fast paced battle between two teams that seemed evenly matched.

It was the Lady Colts who struck first by putting a shot in the net during the sixth minute of play. Martin answered back with a forward-moving drive, but Arlington's defense was able to stop it at the last minute. Martin had excellent ball control to keep the play on Arlington's half of the field for a while, and got several shots in, one of which was punched over the goal by AHS' keeper, and the game went in to the half with Arlington up, 1-0.

When the second half began, the game remained just as physical as the first half, with both teams drawing fouls. However, a yellow card was issued to an Arlington player in the penalty box, resulting in a penalty kick awarded to Martin that tied the game at one apiece. Time would run out in the game to leave the score tied at one. District play does not allow a game to end in a tie, so the game switched over to penalty kicks for each side. The Lady Colts ended up edging the Lady Warriors out, 4 kicks to 3, giving the Lady Colts a sweep over Martin in district play.
